How to Conquer the Mindset Barriers

Mindset barriers can be significant obstacles to personal growth and achievement. These can be tough to conquer, can prevent us from reaching our full potential and limit our ability to pursue our goals.  The good news is that there are ways to address mindset barriers and overcome them. In this blog post, we will explore some effective strategies to overcome mindset barriers and achieve personal growth. We'll explore how healing, motivational coaching, and guidance can help you conquer mindset barriers and reach your full potential.

You’ve taken the first step. You are here, reading this article. You’ve recognized the first problem! Yay! But now what? Here are some steps you can take for yourself in opening the doorway (slowly, we aren’t trying to swing her open right away!) in discovering more of what might be blocking you.

  1. Identify the mindset barrier: The first step in addressing a mindset barrier is to identify it. It's important to understand what thoughts or beliefs are holding you back from achieving your goals. Have stopped to be with yourself and ask, “what are the actual thoughts and ideas swirling through my mind right now?” Take some time to reflect on what comes up and try to identify any negative or limiting beliefs that you may have. This could include - "I'm not good enough," "I can't do it," or "It's too hard." We like to recognize these are intrusive barriers.

  2. Challenge the narrative: Once you've identified these mindset barriers, it's important to challenge the narrative. Ask yourself whether your beliefs are true or whether these are stories you've been told or assumptions put on you by others.  Is the thought reality, or does it come from somewhere else; maybe some judgment from a person or system outside of yourself? Try to reframe your thoughts and focus on the positive, present, aspects of the situation. For example, instead of saying "I can't do it," say "what do I need to shift in my life to be able to do this differently ."

  3. Practice self-compassion: When we face setbacks or challenges, it's easy to be hard on ourselves. Normally when this happens, our instinct is to go inwards and subconsciously practice self-negative talk. “You are a failure,” “why couldn’t you do better.” We call that the inner critic, and it’s designed to keep you distracted from the real feelings underneath your reaction. More often than not, it's easier to point the blame on ourselves rather than recognizing what is really being touched. Is it Anger? Sadness? Frustration? However, practicing self-compassion can help us overcome this sort of mindset and the barriers that arise with it. Be kind and understanding towards yourself, and remind yourself that setbacks and failures are a natural part of the learning process.

  4. Surround yourself with a supportive community: The people we surround ourselves with can have a big impact on our mindset. Have you ever heard the saying, that you are an average of the five closest people we surround ourselves with. When you look around, are you filled with love and support, or rather judgment and jealousy? Surround yourself with aligned and supportive people who will encourage you to pursue your goals and believe in yourself. Avoid people who bring you down or discourage you from pursuing your dreams.

  5. Set achievable goals: So, we’re talking about healing here. She’s not always linear, and most of the time she does NOT happen the way we want or think it will. We hate to break it to you, but that's reality babes. Setting achievable goals can help you overcome mindset barriers by giving you a sense of progress and accomplishment. Goals don’t always have to be these massive exclamations to the world. They can be anything from drinking a glass of water every morning, 5-minute meditations everyday, or setting up weekly walks & talks with a close friend. Start by setting small goals that are achievable and gradually work towards bigger goals. Celebrate your successes along the way and use them as motivation to keep going.

  6. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness can help us overcome mindset barriers by allowing us to focus on the present moment and let go of negative thoughts and beliefs. Practice mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, regular movement practices (like walking in nature or dancing) or yoga to help you stay centered and focused.

Now if this seems like too much -  you might need more guidance or help? Don’t worry, it’s totally normal to need some assistance for an outside source. Sometimes our lives don’t always allow for us to tackle this sort of stuff on our own - trust me we get it.

You deserve some help

Like we said earlier, the first step in conquering mindset barriers is to identify them. Mindset barriers can include negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, and fear of failure. Once you've identified your mindset barriers, you can start to work on healing them.

Healing can take many forms, from therapy to self-reflection. Working with a therapist can help you explore the root causes of your mindset barriers and develop strategies to overcome them. Self-reflection can also be helpful in identifying and healing your mindset barriers. Take time to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, and try to identify any patterns or beliefs that are holding you back.

Some of our favorite ways to tackle mindset barriers in a collective way are what follows;

Personal Coaching

Motivational coaching on a one-on-one basis can be a valuable tool in conquering mindset barriers. A motivational coach can help you identify your goals and develop strategies to achieve them in a digestible, step-wise process. They can also provide guidance and support as you work towards your goals.

A motivational coach can also help you reframe negative self-talk and limiting beliefs. They can help you focus on the positive aspects of a situation and develop a growth mindset.

A Supportive Community of Practice

Supportive community of practice comes in many shapes and sizes. It can come in the form of support groups, group coaching, even yoga and meditation studios. Whatever the style, this idea is being in a space of support. When we engage in our growth within a community, the shared experience of being alongside like-minded people helps us stay motivated, feel held, and of course supported!. Groups like us (COVN) are all about this because we don't want personal growth to be YET another thing that women have to do for themselves by themselves!

Additional Guidance

Guidance can also come in the form of books, podcasts, or online resources. There are many resources available that can provide guidance and inspiration as you work to conquer your mindset barriers.

In conclusion, mindset barriers can be challenging to overcome, but with the right strategies, it is possible to break through them and achieve personal growth. By identifying your mindset barriers, challenging your beliefs, practicing self-compassion, surrounding yourself with positivity, setting achievable goals, and practicing mindfulness, you can overcome your mindset barriers and reach your full potential. Conquering mindset barriers is also possible with the right tools and maybe a little bit of guidance. Healing your mindset barriers, working with a motivational coach, and seeking guidance from a mentor or trusted advisor can all be helpful in achieving your goals. Remember, it's never too late to start working on your mindset and conquering your barriers. With patience, persistence, and the right support, you can achieve your full potential.
